Congratulations to Kehillah Jewish High School!
New Site is Across from the Campus for Jewish Life
Kehillah Jewish High School has announced that it has found a new home at 3900 Fabian Way in Palo Alto and will relocate there in time for the 2005-06 academic year. The new site is directly across from the Campus for Jewish Life (CJL), future home of the Palo Alto Jewish Community Center and senior living residences developed by the Jewish Home of San Francisco.
“It is fantastic that Kehillah joins the Campus in providing a visible center for the Jewish community in the Bay Area and serves its educational needs,” said Jim Koshland, president of the Campus of Jewish Life board of directors. “It is my hope that Kehillah serves not only as a high school, but as a place where people can develop a sense of their Jewish self and foster Jewish ideas and concepts.”
The school is leasing a 50,000-square-foot building and has an option to purchase the site. The new facility will open in July 2005 with 26 classrooms, including physics, chemistry and biology labs, music and arts facilities. Once the Campus is completed, Kehillah students will have access to the extensive amenities and recreational facilities of the Jewish Community Center, right across the street.
Bobby Lent, a member of Kehillah’s board of trustees, sees the proximity of the school to the Campus as a strategic move. “We wanted to be close to the center of the Jewish community, to the nexus, and the Campus for Jewish Life is creating that. The Campus will be like a gravitational well that will have tremendous impact. These facilities will be a great asset and it’s very important that we’re amassing our assets in one place,” he said.
Joint discussions between Kehillah and the Jewish Community Center about collaboration and shared use of facilities are already underway, led by JCC CEO Alan Sataloff and Kehillah’s Head of School, Rabbi Reuven Greenvald. Kehillah is currently accepting applications for 9th through 11th graders for the 2005-06 school year.
